For me, it's taken a while. I'm almost a month out and still having the runs (64 oz of water is killing me). You might want to call your doctor's office and ask them.

I had a couple of the runny yucky kind at the hospital, but after that it took nearly a week. However this is a known side effect for me from the anesthesia. Rebecca

Hi. I had my surgery one week ago today. Day 5 I had my first BM and it wasn't anything to write home about (but then again, here I am writing about it on an international site) The next day was the opposite problem and I think my entire system was just cleaning out. Now I feel great and "moving" right along!

I've been constipated ALL my life but will share a few tips. #1.....remember you are not eating very much food so your BM's should be less anyways. #2 Even before surgery it was suggested from my OB nurse 6 years ago to take Flaxseed Oil....I take 1000mg every morning. #3 Drinking something warm in the morning (Coffee, hot tea, protein hot chocolate) always seems to help and lastly #4 I take 2 stool softners (Colace 100 mg or store brand) every night. This has helped me tremendously.

Usually a couple of days. If you go a week check with your doctor. You don't want to get stopped up. Many people get the runs or constipated. Constipation is more common since you are getting very little fiber. So stool softeners are strongly recommended. Never go more than a week with out a movement. Impacted bowels are really bad.
