1.Eat protein first during all meals because it helps you maintain healthy protein levels. Also try to walk as much as possible until the doctor releases you to get into an exercise program. 2. Drink at least a gallon of water daily. This can be in conjunction with protein shakes, soups, etc. 3. Portion control. Measure your meals so that you don't over eat and stretch your pouch because it will stretch some as you get further out post op. 4. Avoid drinking with meals. Although this is very hard it prevents you from washing the food out of your pouch too fast resulting in hunger too soon after a meal. If you have vomitting to the point that you cannot hold anything down, fever, severe nausea or suffer from any type of unusual pain or bleeding call the doctor immediately. 2 Flinstones Chewables (I take one in the morning and one in the afternoon of with dinner) 1500 mg of calcium(citrate is the best but some doctors recommend starting with Tums. I take one in the morning and one in the afternoon of with dinner) Iron 65 mg once a day but do not take with calcium and I take a Vitamin C chewable 500 mg to aid in absorption. B12/B6 sublingual 1000 mg I take this in the morning.

With the vitamins; it is a multi vitamin but not a childrens such as Flinston. VistaVitamins or Bariatric Advantage are better for us adults. And they have chewable multi's and chewable calcium, B12 and iron.

4 Rules 1. Chew, Chew, Chew (everything must be liquid before swollowing) 2. 80-120 grams of Protein/day (Protein first at every meal plus supplements of either shakes or bars) 3. Minimum of 64oz of water per day 4. Exercise daily (start with waking and work up and don't forget strength training) Things to report to Surgeon 1. Fever over 100 deg 2. Opening at incesions 3. Excessive Vomiting 4. Severe Depression 5. Blood in stool 6. Passing out/fainting 7. Anything else that you are unsure of... it never hurts to get your surgeon's advice!! Vitamins 1. Good Multi-vitamin either liquid, spray, or chewable 2. B-12 1000mg/day (spray, sublingual, or dots) 3. Iron (min of 325mg Ferrous Sulfate or Ferrous Glutonate which are 65mg of elemental iron) 4. Calcium Citrate 1200mg/ day (not within 2 hours of iron) 5. B Complex vitamin (B-1 (Thiamin) and B-9 (Folic Acid) and B-6 tend to be the most needed besides B-12 which has to be supplemented in addition to the B-Complex. 6. I also recommend Glutamine to help with muscle and skin tone as well as blood sugar regulation. Hope that helps.... Hugs from your Okie friend.

I hate to tell you this but everyone will give differing answers on this one. Every surgeon is different and they will advise their patients on a case by case basis. I have already read the answers given above and some of them contradict what my surgeon told me. It's always best to read literature from "your" surgeon on what their rules are and if they don't give you any, ask them in advance what information you should know. ALWAYS write down everything they say...before and after the surgery.
