Question:
Anyone have any experience with the new 'Body Fat' scales?

I have been wanting one, but want to know how accurate they can be. Anyone own one, or have used one? How accurate are they? Would the results be skewed due to more bone density, extra skin, etc.?    — Cheri M. (posted on December 19, 2002)

I will let you know within a week or so as I bought one for my family for Christmas and I just had my body fat done at the YMCA as well with the calipers which is a fairly accurate method. I'll let you know how close the percentages were then.

I bought one about three months before surgery, surgery was on 3/1/02 and it has been fairly accurate within a pound and a percentage each time I have gone for a check up at the docs. I don't know if all the brands are the same but I bought a Tanita. Hope it helps!

I agree with Kelly, I have had a tanita for about 2 years and it is exactly accurate with my doctors office - I love it!

I bought one 9 months pre-op. Im now 5 months post and I havent stepped on it once since my surgery. Im afraid to. The psychologist who runs the support group meetings kinda discourages us from weighing ourselves at home until we are maintaining our goal weight. She said she's seen the scale mess with too many peoples heads while they are in the losing stages postop. I know for me, I agree with her. I would totally end up micro-managing each and every lb gained or lost as well as fat percent. So, till im at goal weight - I just weigh in at the docs office.

Home scales are never accurate and the bouncing they do will drive you nuts. I weigh in at a pet store near my home, Pets supply plus. Its convenient but not overly so. BTW even home digital scales use a analog rotating wheel that just transfers the info to a digital display. The pet sta=ore gas a professional fairbanks scale that accurate to within about a pound.
