Question:
clothing sizes

I am 5'2 and weigh 180 now. I am a little over 3 months out and starting weight was 237. I was a size 20 and am now in a 14/16. I heard that 10 pounds is a size...for me it is about 10-20 pounds. I am wondering if you all can tell me your height, weight and what size you wear. I am trying to determine what size I might end up being. I have 50-55 more pounds to lose. That should be about 5 sizes right? Thanks in advance for those of you that respond.    — kittyluver77 (posted on July 17, 2007)

Here goes my 2 cents. Started at 238 and a size 24 and I am 5'4" tall. Had my RNY 6 months ago and am now a size 14 or a misses large or xl, no more plus sizes for me, the only thing I forgot to do, please dont laugh at me, was buy new underware! I was still wearing my size 11 and my husband started calling me "grannypants" so just got some new ones that are size 6 and 7, feel great. Sounds like we are all on the same track, sorry to talk about my underware but if I can't talk here where can I, LOL. Keep up the good work!

To guess what size you will be then will be just that, a guess. You will lose weight in different areas at different times and you will also have to deal with the skin issue. I am 10.5 months out. 6 feet tall, started at 366lbs in a 32/34 and now weigh 200lbs and am wearing 14 tops and 14/16 bottoms but if/when I have a tummy tuck I will drop at least 1 more size on the bottoms. Good luck but don't kill yourself trying to figure it out. Just have fun losing! Happy Weight Loss!

Well I started out about the same as you. I am 5'3 and weighed 227 on surgery day. My surgery was on August 7, 2006. I hit my goal weight back in the winter and just mantaining now. I run between 146-150. I was in a size 20 myself and now I am in a 10, that is in pant size. I am in M to L tops. Depends on how they are made really. I hope this has been of some help.

Petite sizes run ...well you guessed it....SMALLER! So, the sizes may vary...also, your body shape is the real important factor. Pear shaped, pencil shaped, va va va voom shaped all play a huge roll on the sizes you will always wear...size does not matter if you feel great and are healthy and also look fabulous..those should be your parameters ... not some rediculous chart that's over a hundred years old. lol.

Great job so far!! I am 5'6" and weighed 257 initially. I am at about 11 months and weigh about 157. I wore a 22/24 top and 20/22 tall jeans. I now am wearing a size 10 consistantly and sometimes a size 8 tall jeans. I have about 27 pounds to go and then I will start to work on a tummy tuck.... One of my best friends had surgery 4 years ago and she is maintaining at about 135-140, is 5'6" and wears a size 6 or sometimes a 4.... It's really hard to say what size anyone will be and the sizes vary so much by the style and manufacturer. I can wear most 10's comfortably, but somethings I need an 8 or it won't stay up! Levi Strauss I wear an 8. Good Luck and keep your chin up...Isn't it just wonderful not to have to shop in the plus sizes!!! And to be able to find clothes on a clearance rack!!!

Hi Stacy. I am glad you are dreaming, but I really encourage you to not set your hopes up too high. Everyone is different. I am 5'4 and about 128 pounds and a size 4/6. The shorter you are, the more weight per size you will need, and the more skin you have, the more you have to adapt for that. I had the skin removed from my abdomin area, so that could affect your size. I encourage you to celebrate what you have lost and be satisfied with whatever size comes. Size 5 is a dinky Junior size. You might make it there, but if you don't you still would have lost down to 130. I am thankful for my size, and love being small, but I was also thankful for size 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 when I hit those. If you set your sites on a size 5 and don't hit it, then the game can become dangerous and you could over diet, throw up to get there, etc. Don't set youself up for stuff like that. You are doing great, and have so much warm weather left to exercise and lose more. I know you will, you are doing so well now. Just enjoy it and enjoy the journey. Dreaming is good, obscessing is not good. I don't know that you are obscessing, but if you are, please don't do that to youself. Take care. Patricia P.

I am 4'10" and started out at 227 wearing 22-24's. I had RNY LAP 3/9/06 and am now 112 and wear 4's and some 2's. I am so happy and feel wonderful. You will get there. The real problem is the extra skin and where it is. I would probably lose another 5-10 pounds if I could afford plastic surgery. Congrats on your weight loss. Isn't it a delightful journey? Kelly

I am 5' 2 1/2" and have lost about 86 lbs. I have about 3 more lbs to go till my personal goal of 135. I am wearing 8's and 10's mostly and some small and medium tops. I cannot see myself going to a 4 or 6 but who knows??? I know the weight loss is slowing down after 8+ months and I am able to eat more often which worries me. You seem to be doing well and will probably get to a 6-8 if you get to your goal. Don't compare yourself or try to figure out how many pounds are a size, that won't work. You need to exercise and sometimes you will not lose weight but your clothes will fall off because of your weight shifting with exercise. good luck.

Hi Stacey, congrats on your awesome progress. When I had my surgery in 10/03, I weighed around 340+ and I was wearing a 5-6x in tops and bottoms I don't know, only wore super stretch.....I am 5'4". I now weigh in the 170's and I wear a 10-12 depending on who makes it. My goal was to get to 180 or below it into the 170's, so I am where I wanted to be when I got my surgery. I am so grateful to have made it this far. I am almost 4yrs out and I am trying to get in shape by exercising...I know this will help me lose more or get into a smaller size. But even if I don't get any smaller, I am happy. It took forever for me to change sizes, but I didn't realize that I was wearing the same stretch clothes that were good for a 100lb swing either way, when I started trying on regular clothes I could see the size change. Good luck and just be happy with your health!! Lisa H. lap rny/gb 10-23-03 340+/176/??? half the person I was!

So we had date night last night and he gave me a gift from Victoria Secrets and it had five pairs of thongs. He told me it's time to give up the granny panties. LOL. Everybody good luck and congradulations on the weight lose.

Stacey...this is a tough question in some ways. A lot of this depends on body shape, too. I have a friend who weighs about 45 pounds less than me and only wears one size different in pants...but it's all about shape...her shirts are about 2 or 3 sizes smaller than me...so I think your main goal should be to exercise, continue the great work that you have done so far...and not focus so ####### these numbers. It sounds like you are doing terrifice...best of luck to you! God Bless!
