Question:
How long does it take so you can bend over without your left side pain which I think

I had surgery March 15, Im not bending from the waist ,just when I bend a little I have that pain in my left side,I think that is my port,I am wondering because I have a physical job and was hoping to go back to work at the end of this week. Will it hurt anything when you are bending and it hurts?Or what does this mean?    — Sandy Hanson (posted on March 25, 2007)

Sandy, listen to your body hon. If you are still having pain do NOT go back to work. I would call my doctor on this. Although it is normal to feel soreness and yes pain after ANY surgery. Best Wishes, Mickey Craig

Yeah, going back to work right now is not a good idea -- if you can keep from it. I was off 4 weeks --- check with your doctor to see about the pain -- could be something else.

You should not be going back to work with a drain "port" in. Also, you should not be going back to work if you are still having a lot of pain. Or if you have a physical job then you should be having some restrictions - see your surgeon for this. What does it mean... hmmmm ... maybe because you just had MAJOR abdominal surgery??? Give your body a chance to heal.... good luck to you and congrats on your surgery.

I agree with all the other answers posted before mine. In addition if you had RNY my Dr. explained to me he has to go through a muscle on the left side to be able to construct the new pouch you have so that muscle is very irritated now to say the least. It took mine several weeks to really feel good again. Congratulations on your decision and good luck on your journey. Norma
