Question:
3 weeks post-op: extremely bloated.

I am exactly 3 weeks post-op and I am experiencing extreme bloating were it is visible. Should I call the doctor? Is this normal? Thanks!    — MariaRN (posted on September 7, 2007)

Hi Maria, I, too, had painful bloating. It will eventually go away. Don't forget that you had major surgery and you are still swollen inside. That won't subside till about week 6. I am 4.5 weeks out and still have problems with pain and nausea. Everyone reacts differently to the surgery. If you feel very ill, or have a temperature, please make an appointment to see your doctor. But you should have your one month appointment coming up soon. Good luck. -@li

Call you surgeon ASAP. It may be minor, like being dehydrated which can make you retain liquids, but it could be serious, so please call your doctor now!!! for your safety!

Pretty normal to have bloating after gastric bypass. I had it as well and it took a few months to go down. I would still let my doctor know, but you'll be fine!! Best Wishes, Mickey
