Question:
pain in my lower left side stomach

If this doesn't go through this time I give up. This is my 4th try today. I am having so much pain in my lower left side of my stomach when I try to stand up. I decided I would put on a control top panty. It is helping. The pain is bad only when I try to stand. I start off walking bent over. I went back to using my cane today. I take liquid pain killer and I only need it when I try to stand. I remember in the 50's they would band your belly when you had a baby. The reason for the control top panty. Around my navel area is really dark. I hurt in other places but not like in the lower stomach when I try to stand up. I am walking around the house alot. I get out of bed at 6am and don't get back in it until 9 or 10pm. It is just trying to stand up to get started. Makes me not want to walk but I do    — pettykash (posted on December 16, 2005)

I would call either your weight loss surgeon or family dr! Or call a dr's help line and talk to a nurse.. it may not be anything.. but better to be safe than sorry!!!!

Hello, Let me first say "Welcome to the Losing Side". The pain that you are feeling may be "stitch" pain. An internal stitch is placed in the lower left quadrant of the abdomen during surgery. This stitch is put in place to avoid a hernia. With that said, the pain is "OUT OF THIS WORLD"! The pain got worse before it got better. It took about 6-8 weeks to go away entirely. I have a high tolerance for pain but this pain was unbearable. So unbearable that I went back to the hospital because I thought something was wrong. The only comfort for me was the shot of morphine at the hosptial and not laying on that side. Hope this helps!

Hey Bev, Sound like the gas pain that I had...I could not describe to anyone how bad it hurt...I too went back to the doctor..and they did upper and lower Gi...nasty fluid going in both ends...and said...you got gas....It took about5 weeks for mind to finally clear too...hot showers, heating pad...I put a pillow between me and the massager to give a low vibration....laying on my left side helped... but remember when the gas starts to pass...never trust a fart... HI, Im going through almost the same thing as well. Im 11 months postop and have lost 120lbs. My left lower side has been hurting for about 3 months now. And I am now trying to take care of it. The doc ordered me to take a C-Scan and a pelvic examination. They said that I had a cyst on my left ovarie and he just ordered me to take ultrasound yesterday. Becuase he also thinks I might have Fibroids. So I would say go to the Gyno to check yourself. It may not be the same thing but dont hesitate on seeing your doc about your problem. Good Luck, Hope all goes well!!!

Hi, I am 6 weeks post op, I can tell you that I had the same pains. The Dr. told me it is normal from the staple line. I can tell you that they should have also provided you with a "Belly Binder" It kinda looks like a back brace, this really helps. The pain will subside it about a week. At the same time also be aware of possible kidney stones. Many people expirence this since before surgery we consumed large amounts of water, however post op, we just can't drink that much. In doing so, you are not flusing out your kidneys and they start to develop deposits (kidney stones). Good Luck
