How long does it take for the LAP RNY procedure?
I'm having my surgery with Dr. Champion, how long does the LAP RNY procedure last with Dr. Champion's expertise? — yourdivaness (posted on March 27, 2002)

My surgeon says 2.5 - 3 hours, but I believe it depends on the surgeon
because I've heard of some lasting 4-5 hours. It also depends on any
complications, etc. I hope this answers your question.

Mine was 1.5hrs..... I am sure it depends on the surgeon etc... no
complications.... only stayed in hospital overnight....I thought having the
flu was worse than the surgery! GOOD LUCK!!!

It depends on your surgeon and your insides. My surgeon planned a 4 hour
surgery but it took 4.5 due to the way my stomach was attached to my colon
and some adhesions. His fastest surgery was 2.5 hours but he averages 4.
I consider him an excellent surgeon so the length of time did not bother
me.

Mine lasted about 3 hours which seems to be about the average for my
surgeon.

Operating time is going to depend greatly on the experience and expertise
of the surgeon involved. Dr. Champion has been the surgeon for four of us
in our family so far. My surgery took the longest time - 1 hour, 10
minutes - due to adhesions (scar tissue) from previous surgeries. The
surgeries for my daughter, husband and cousin each lasted one hour. Best

Mine took 1 hour and 15 minutes including the repair of an umbilical hernia
and a hiatal hernia. Dr. Inabnet at Mt.Sinai, NYC
