JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD A SAMPLE OF A LETTER THEY WROTE TO THEIR EMPLOYER ASKING FOR THE NEEDED TIME OFF. WHAT CAN I INCLUDE IN MY LETTER THAT WILL BE JUST ENOUGH INFORMATION WITHOUT TELLING ALL THE DETAILS. I WORK FOR A VERY LARGE CO. Have your primary care physician write a generic letter to your Human resource dept explaining that surgical intervention is necessary to correct your high blood pressure, degenerative joint disease, sleep apnea, diabetes, etc. In other words whatever your symptoms are. It is none of their business what kind of surgery you are having. The less people you tell the better. But please be sure to tell at least one close friend.

My letter was not very long. Bascially, I just told them how much time I needed off. I did not go into detail and tell them what type of surgery I was having, but I did tell them I was having surgery. Hopes this helps.

I just filled out the paperwork for my time off. I am taking advantage of the Family Leave Act. The paperwork my Human Resources Department sent me only asked very general questions about why I was requesting leave. Was I taking the time off to have a baby, adopt a child, tend to a seriously ill family member or take care of my own serious health matter? I do believe I could have left it at that. Of course big mouth that I am I told my manager,my hair dresser and anyone else who listen (LOL) all about my impending surgery. But seriously, you have every right to keep this private matter as private as you need to. If you work for a large company, deal with your Human Resources directly. They are used to handling confidential matters and have all the proper paperwork to apply for the Family Leave Act, etc. Good Luck, Sharyle
