Question:
Have any Post ops used any colon cleansers?

If so, can you please share your experience. Also, what product did you use? Also, did you use any weight?    — Angela A. (posted on September 4, 2001)

Im not post-op and dont know a lot about colon cleansers but...wouldnt supositories or enimas (like a fleet enima) work? They dont give you any gas and it not something that has to pass through your system..good luck.

I used a colon cleanser a year before I had surgery. It gave me such terrible gas and cramping that I would be afraid to use it now. The few times I have needed cleaning out since WLS, I used the surgeon recommended milk of magnesia. Did the trick and I felt like a new person!

Back many moons ago when I only needed to lose 25 pounds or so my Army recruiter suggested Citroma and it worked quite well. He said many of the people that he knew used it to shed some quick pounds. I would be really careful though about using it for a long period of time.

I am 1 year post op 7/25/2000 and I recently had my gallbladder removed 8/17/2001. The same Dr. having done both lapriscopically. This Doctor insists on you being SQUEEKLY clean!!! Before WLS, I endured a tortuous bowel cleansing with liquids only for 2 days topped off by a gallon of Go-Lytely prior to surgery. I lost 10lbs. I was hesitant for gallbladder surgery, concerned about the bowel prep. as it was so traumatic for me- this time, they asked me to do the fast 1 day prior and then top it off with 10 oz of Magnesium Citrate prior to surgery. The Magnesium Citrate was still barfy tasting, but I only had to down 1 glass compared to 1 gallon. I do not think I lost anything compared to what I did the year before.

Are you asking about something like Nullo?? I use it to deodorize my colon as well as cleanse it. It helps with the bowel/gas odors too. The side effect is that everything that passes from your bowels is VERY green....LOL!
