Question:
What Do I Do Next? Dieting Attempts?

This is the letter I got. Dear Ms. Watson Thank you for taking the time to complete the requested forms regarding gastric bypass. I have thoroughly reviewed these and while it is clear that you do suffer from multiple weight related medical problems, I am not sure at this point that you satisfy all of the qualifications for bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery is a last ditch effort and can not be entered into lightly. Not only must patients satisfy a size requirement but they also must have failed all earnest attempts at weight loss. Unfortunately the medical community considers this to be at least six month trial in some supervised program. I would encourage you to seek such assistance. You maybe able to do this with your PCP or at one of the other type of weight loss clinics that are present around the area. If after that time, you have still been unsuccessful in any weight loss, please feel free to contact us again so that we might be able to proceed. It is imperatve, however, that there has been some failure of a supervised form of weight loss so that we may ethically consider patients to have failed all conventional means. Again thank you for your interest and if I can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Dr.XXXXXXXX I have done many weight loss program and I put that down. I think the problem is that I do not have paper proof of any from a Dr. My PCP that I had years ago put me on a long diet and I lost 30 lbs but gained it and more back. He is retired and I have no idea how to get in contact with him. I have done all kinds of research and have read everything I can get my hands on. I am 300+ and age 35 I have a hard time even walking any distance at all because of my back. I also have high blood pressure, depresstion, polycystic ovarian sydrome, and calcium deposits on my back. I need help in what to do next. I really wanted this Dr. to do it because he is in my town.    — Terri W. (posted on June 11, 2001)

I agree with Barb. Go to another surgeon, or...just begin another WL program under a Doc's supervision. He is only requiring you be on it for 6 mths. My surgeon did not require that of me at all, so if you have another surgeon to go to, I would go to him/her. Good Luck !
