Question:
Estimated weight loss

I have seen but cannot now seem to locate the estimates for how much of your excess weight you are estimated to lose at 3,6, 9 and 12 months out (not the MGB calculator site) If anyone has this information I would appreciate it. Thanks.    — Anna B. (posted on March 13, 2001)

My surgeon said we should lose 1/2 of our excess weight by month 5 and the remainder during the following 12 months approx.

Whoa! I think it's irresponsible for your surgeon to say folks should lose half of their excess weight in only 5 months. What if someone has 300 lbs to lose? or 200? If one doesn't lose 100 lbs in 5 months one will feel like a failure! It's important to realize that all people will lose weight differently. It depends on the type of surgery, how much one has to lose, and how much one weighs to begin with.

I'm not sure where I found it but it was on this sight or one of the others I have been reading, but here it is. 6 weeks 20% 3 months 33% 12 months 67% but my doctor said it alldepends on the person each person is dif. I hope this helps you.

My surgeon says his guidelines are 32% at 3 months and 60% at 6 months. I think most say at least 50% of excess weight by 6 months. Remember it is of excess weight, so even if you are bigger or smaller it should be accomplished.
