Question:
Do you ever have pouch pain when eating/drinking?

I am about 5 1/2 months out from an open RNY with gallbladder removal. For the last month or so, I have been having intermittent pain in my pouch, which is made worse by eating or drinking. Whenever I swallow water or food, it goes down fine for a moment, but once it hits my stomach it feels like it has to get past a gas bubble or some other obstacle and it hurts. After it settles into my pouch, the pain stops. But then when I swallow another bite the same thing happens. I've been on Prilosec once daily since surgery to prevent ulcers (I have a history) and right after surgery my doctor had me on them 2 times a day. Since going to 1 dosage a day, I seem to be having problems. My gallbladder is gone, I am not vomiting, have no other problems, just the pain when something enters my pouch. What might be going on?? Hi, my pain started in that manner and I had an endoscopy which showed an ulcer and a stricture. I have had 5 stricturees total. But, the main thing is I had the pain for months and let it go. So don't let it go insist you have an endoscopy so they can really see what's going on. I'm no doctor but it sounds like the beginning of an ulcer, also considering your history. Take care and get it taken care of don't wait...I waited too long which caused more problems. There are also much stronger ulcer medications on the market, such as Aciphex. Make sure your surgeon gets you in touch with a gastroenterologist who has expereience scoping gastric patients.
