Question:
Have you had WLS & have been dx'd with bipolar disorder?

I am trying to find some support from others who have been dx'd as bipolar who have also had surgery (are post op). You may email me at [email protected]. Thanks!    — Maya D. (posted on June 2, 2003)

Hi: I hope you've received some emails. I know there have been people on this site who have been diagnosed with BPD and have had wls. Good luck!

I had DS wls on 2/14/03 and have lost 90 lbs to date. I am Bipolar. Also have anxiety issues. I take lithium, wellbutrin, and geodon. I used to take Resperdial, but found out it causes weight gain, so Dr switched me off it and on to geodon, which is a new drug. I am doing greaton it. My wls had me taking my antidepressants up untill the day of surgery. Then when I got into recovery, intensive care, I was off them. When I got switched to my regular room, about 3 days later, I was given them again to take out of the hospital pharmcy, prescribed from my Dr. I had no problems at all. My psych. thinks as I lose weight, he will have to adjust my dosage smaller, they take my blood on a regular basis, to check my levels. If you have anymore questions, email me. Good luck.
