Question:
7 weeks Post-Op..I think I have a sugar problem??

Hi... from time to time I go more than 4-6 hours between eating. Sometimes at work, or when I forget (because I'm not hungry yet), and especially when I'm sleeping!! When I eat anything after the time lapse I get all woozy and spacey... (LOL like an out of body experience) it only lasts about 10 min... but it is a pain when I'm trying to drive, or I'm at a lunch business meeting (happened Friday!) Well I'm not a diebetic (never have been, my sugar--even at my top weight-- ran low) but my Mother (RN) says this sounds like a sugar thing--the surgeon says it my body dealing with all the protein.... has this kinda stuff ever happened to anyone???    — Leah S. Leah, by sugar problem, I'm thinking you are talking about keeping your blood sugar levels even during the day. Lack of eating can cause anyone's blood sugar to lower even if they are not diabetic, I believe. I have problems like this when I go a long period of time without eating. A couple of times I got the shakes and fainted, but felt better after I was given something to eat. Both times, I had gone over over 8 hours without eating anything, but you say you get woozy after you eat, so this may not be the same thing. My mother recently said she has experienced the same thing after eating its like she passes out and goes to sleep (she hasn't had WLS), but we are checking into it because diabetes runs in our family). Getting woozy while driving is dangeous, so please discuss it with your doctor.

Leah, I'm still pre-op so I may not know. But... the nutritionist told us that if you go longer than 6 hours with no food that you will get the reaction you're getting. If you're worried about eating at inopportune times, tell them you're hypoglycemic(SP) or something. Good luck.
