Question:
Looking for reasonable cash pay surgeon

Please help. I am looking for a resonably priced good surgeon for a Lap RNY. I have searched the surgeon database and looked up web information if it was available. Most programs do not list price on the web, and every one that I have called have been in the 30K range. I live in Northern CA, but at this point will consider any reccomendations by my wonderful peers here at AMOS. Thanks for your help!    — Wendy G. (posted on December 23, 2002)

Wendy I am in Maryland and the surgeon here just commented the other day how much cheaper it is to have the surgery here in this area as opposed to many other areas. I have a dear friend who is a self pay and he says it isnt so bad. Dr Michael Sofronski at Delmarva Bariatric. www.delmarvabariatric.com Good Luck

Drs. Georgen and Wasco in Neenah WI charge $26,000 for open RNY and $29,000 for LAP RNY for self-pay patients. They require payment up front though.<p>Someone posted the other day that in Washington state you could get the whole procedure for around $15,000. Actually I think I got that off another WLS website. I'll see if I can find more info. There is also Dr. Baltasar in Spain. I guess he is also around $12-15,000.

Just to clarify the last post...Dr. Baltasar in Spain charges $11,500 for the open procedure and $16,500 for the Lap procedure. Dr. B doesnt do the RNY though, he ONLY does the Duodenal Switch. The cost covers the hospital and his fees...no hidden/extra charges unless there is a complication, and then would only have to pay for the extra hospital time. His surgery includes the DS, gallbladder removal and appendix removal. If interested you can check him out at www.drbaltasar.com.

I was a self pay and I went to Little Rock Arkansas two and half weeks ago. My surgeon's name is Dr Rex Luttrell. For my open rny total with hospital and everything was $12,100.00. That includes up to a seven day stay in the hospital ICU or not. The price for lap rny was a little over $17,500. for everything. I hope this helps.

There is also Dr Pedro Kuri in Tijuana, Mexico which is just a hop, skip and a jump away from San Diego. He does the lap band for $8,500 for everything. I spoke with him back in April, about it and he seemed for confident in the lap band, and I heard he is very skilled. I didn't end up going there, nor getting the lap band, but it definatley was an idea, that I had along in my journey. Both his number and my surgeon, Dr Rex Luttrell are under find a doc at the top of the page.

First off, my Dr dosen't do the Lap RNY, just the Open. However the entire cost of the procedure is $13,031.00. His name is Dr. David Simonowitz in Bellevue, WA. He works out of Overlake Hospital's Surgical Specialist's. The telephone number is 425-688-1916. Good luck & feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Wendy, Well you would still have to travel, but I would highly recommend my surgeon Dr. Thomas Brown in Denver Colorado. He was a little less than $6000 for me, but I still had hospital charges.. though my insurnace covered 50% so I only owe 3000 for that and they are willingly accepting small payments. Check out Dr. Browns web site at http://www.surgeryquest.com adn also my profile to learn more. He and his team are just awesome! And it is not a forever wait either!

I went to a meeting that a doctor gave at a Birmingham Alabama hospital, someone asked him about paying cash and he said that it would be $25,000 for EVERYTHING. They do LAP as well as OPEN. If you want any info on this Doctor please contact me.

Last I knew, my doc charged around $5,500.00 for his fees, Anest. charges were around 1450.00, docs asst. charges were around 800.00 and heard the hospital would give like a 10% disc. if you were paying cash. Of course all this depends on if you need to go to ICU or anything else. If your interested email me. [email protected]
