Question:
Has anyone ever tried the Designer Whey Protein Blast Drink?

I purchased several samples today and this was one of them. I have tried several chalky powders, and cannot handle them now, so I know I will not be able to stomach it on the other side (open RNY scheduled 5/15..woo hoo!) The salesperson at GNC compared it to the Isopure flavored rinks that come in the 20 oz. bottles as they no longer carry those. This one is in a 16 oz. bottle and the only flavor they had was TropiCURL Breeze. I tasted it and it is "ok", but I would prefer not to drink it if the Isopure has a better flavor. If you have tried it, what was your opinion and how does it compare to Isopure (if you know)? Also, I am allergic to chocolate so if you have any suggestions on other protein drinks that do not taste like chalk I would appreciate you sharing. Thanks!    — Rachelle P (posted on May 4, 2002)

This is so funny--I am drinking one of these exact drinks right now! I'm still pre-op, but I went to a natural foods store today to try to find some protein supplements. I bought a canister of vanilla flavored soy protein, a Designer Whey Protein Bar (flavor Perfect ABSberry), and a Designer Whey Protein Blast drink (flavor TropiCURL Breeze). The vanilla flavored stuff was pretty nasty! I put some ice in it and a couple packets of artificial sweetner, which helped. I ate part of the protein bar, and at first, I didn't think it tasted too bad. By the time I got to the end of it, I nearly gagged and had to throw the rest away. The Protein Blast drink is the best of the three, but it kind of has the same effect on me as the bar--it gets worse the more I drink. I'm getting a little concerned because if all protein supplements taste like these, I don't know if I will be able to handle them post-op, especially considering that probably nothing will taste as good then as it does now. I haven't tried the Isopure products, but you ought to go to a natural foods store and see if they carry it. These things are so pricey--even if I loved the Protein Blast drink, I can't afford $3.00 a bottle when I'm supposed to drink 2 bottles a day. I just hope that I can eat protein-rich foods and not have to rely so much on the drinks and bars. Good luck in your search!

One more thing: Michelle Curran sells protein supplements on her website (www.vitalady.com). She also sells individual packets for $1.00 each (I think). You could buy several packets from her and try them all until you find one you can stomach!

I tried the blast drink and like them MUCH better than the Isopure. Just my .02!
