Question:
Is what they inject dring a Cat scan and use to do the leak test the same thing?

Because I am severely allergic. When I had my cat scan they had to call an doctor down from the ER because my face became swollen,I had an asthma attack and had twitched during the procedure. Was it barium? Sorry to keep asking so many questions but want to be 100% prepared.    — Caroline C. (posted on March 17, 2002)

What is injected into you for a contrast CAT SCAn is Iodine and what is used for a leak test is a barium swallow. It tastes bad but isn't the stuff that you're allregic too. Vicki Mize

Iodinated (usually non-ionic) contrast media is injected intravenously for CT scans. If you have a CT scan with contrast in the future, or an IVP (kidney x-ray dye test), cardiac catheterization, or any other test where they're going to inject, inform your technologist that you had a reaction in the past!!!!!!!
