I started at 358 lbs., 5'11". I had open RNY on 2/19/01. Currently I weigh 190 lbs. I would like to lose another 20 lbs, which I expect to do in the next 3-4 months. My weight loss has been fairly steady, the plateaus have been mostly of my own making, not enough protein, too many carbs, not exercising. Please check my profile for my journey and I'll be glad to answer any of your specific questions. Best of luck, Barbara Clark

My starting weight was 321 lbs. My height is 5 ft. 6 in.; My prox. open RNY was 6-20-01. Todays weight is 179. Am I at goal? Who knows! I am wearing size 10 and 12's. I'm pretty darn happy to have my improved health! I am also over 50 now. I do not count calories, carbs, or weigh daily. I eat as healthy as I can three meals and two snacks per day. Exercise and drink lots of water. Take protein supplements and vitamins. (My choice is vita4life.net). I have forever given up white flour, white sugar and processed foods. *

I weighed 350 when I had surgery 4-13-00. I lost about 175# the first 12 months or so. Over the last year I have gained about 5 pounds. I'm 5'9 & my goal weight was 165, so I'm now about 15# over goal. I am having a tummy tuck done April 5th & I figure that could well account for as much as 10 of the pounds I am still over goal. I might at some point make the effort to get a few more pounds off, but honestly, right now I am quite happy where I am. I wear size 12 & 14, can shop anywhere, can do all the physical things I want to (well, except for the leg I broke while skiing three weeks ago, but that's another story!), I am very healthy & I eat *mostly* whatever I want. It's hard to beat that.

Hi: I started out at 346lbs at 5' 3". I am almost 14 months out and I've lost 175lbs. (I weigh less than what I've lost!!) Anyway, I would like to lose another 20 -25 lbs. I'm still loosing, but much more slowly. I plan on having a TT in the next few months, and was told that at least 10-15 lbs would be lost when that it done, SO I fully expect to make it to my goal. (Just a note, I exercise a LOT, so I believe that is what has REALLY helped in doing so well) Good luck to you!!

Hi! The day of my surgery on August 8, 2001 I weighed in at 436lbs. I now weigh 309lbs. Almost 10 months after surgery. A total lost of....125lbs. I think I'm really behind as far as losing weight compared to other people....but, I have to keep telling myself....125 freaking pounds. I can cross my legs, love to go on walks, and of course wear smaller clothes. I think those of us who are overweight and have this surgery think way too much about our actual weight as far as pounds are concerned. It should matter how you feel...what you look like in your clothes. Of course I want to lose another 100 lbs! But, will I get there? I don't know...My soon to be hubby loves me as I am...as do my friends and family. The question is...do I love myself. And yes....I'm getting there. IT's difficult when on a daily basis a person is judged by their looks. I feel as though I will never have complete approval by others....That I'll always be fat or plump in other peoples eyes...Which is probaly true. But, this is me...and if someone can't handle all of me, I don't need them in my life...lol...309...wow...I haven't weighed that for at least 10 yrs or more. Thank you Jesus.......now to do my part and eat right and exercise. Somewhere down the line you've gotta take responsibility and get disciplined

I made my goal of 150 two years post op. Plastic surgery took away another 20 pounds and I've maintained a weight of 133-138 lbs since then.

I had RNY Gastric Bypass on July 10, 2002 and weighed 398 pounds. As of today (December 7, 2002)I am 257 pounds which is a tremendous amount of weight to loose in such a short period of time. Of course men tend to loose quickly and of course being 25 helps too. My idea weight will be about 180-200 for my height which is 6'1.

Hi all, I started at 354. My surgery was 11 months ago, and I have lost 170 pounds. I now weigh 184, I fit in a size 12. I have slipped into some bad habits since the beginning. I was perfect at first... but how long can that last? In fact, at my 2 week appointment, after nothing but clear liquids, I had gained 2 pounds. Leave it to me bady to rebel. I have lost steadily tho since, with monthly cycle plateaus every month. I am pulling it together for my final push toward goal. I feel I must hit the magic number of 150 or I will not have succeeded. Weird, because I can wear a 12, can shop anywhere, do feel soooooo much better, do soo many more things, etc. But the heart wants what it wants. I do have the daily challenge of weighing the carbo-snacking against the goal weight, and the fight to get my behind to the gym, and water intake is still a struggle for me. I know these are the things that got me where I am, and will get me to goal. To get those final pounds off, I still have to be committed. In the beginning we HAVE to be committed, physically we have no other choice. I could not eat carbs, made me sick. Now I have the choice, which is not always a good thing. I will add one more thing. throughout I have been committed to supplementing with protein shakes. I know some DRS dont think you should, but to me, it has been instrumental. I know 2 women that weighed less than me, one taller, one shorter, had their surgeries at the same time, one weighs less than me, one more, but BOTH are still in a size 18, I wear a 12. I must be doing something right. I think the protein has helped me maintain muscle, which weighs more and burns fat. Good luck to you. My thoughts and prayers are with all of us.

I had my surgery 5/31/02 and started at 357. I am now 240. I am 13 mos out and have lost very slowly (so it feels) but I am still down. My goal is 140 so I have another 100. I can wear a size XL 14/16 top and a 22 or 20 pants depending. I am very bottom heavy pear shaped. I move a lot better, never tired, can cross my legs, can fit in all the clothes that are plus size and can wear regular misses size tops. I am blessed so far and looking forward to finishing. I anticipated a quicker loss than I had but I am determined to get to goal I need to seriously exercise more, cut down carbs and any sugars and make sure I am getting enough water and I should be OK. You can do it. I never thot I would be in a pant size bellow 24 and have them too big! I sit here as I type in a pair of levy's sizw 24 that I could not even get up past my thighs last year this time. Now they are extremely lose and I could actually be in the smaller size. At the time I bought them I thot, when I can wear these loosely, then I will know I have arrived. Well, here I am still finding something to complain about i.e. not losing fast enough) but I really have arrived in my own way.

I started at 350-352 on 11-12-02 when I had my open RNY.I am 5 ' 5 ". My goal kept changing. My first goal was to get under 200, then 170 ( my surgeon's goal),then 150 and finally 135. I was at 150 by 18 months. I currently weigh 125 and have to work to stay there and not lose. It is such a joy to walk into ANY store and buy clothes. I never dreamed that I would be wearing size 8-10. Whether we get to goal or past goal, we need to remember where we started and why we had this surgery. A HEALTHIER AND LONGER LIFE. It is a lifetime plan!!!

My highest was 456. I was 421 on surgery day. At the 1 year WLS anniversary I was down 200 pounds. I am now just past the 2 year mark and I am within 10 pounds of my goal.

I started at 350 on my surgery date (6/2/03). Today, I weigh about 210-214 (it fluctuates). I am about 20 pounds shy of my goal. Its the hardest 20 pounds I have EVER had to lose.
