Crunching the numbers
May 05, 2014
According to my surgeon, in order to be considered a successful Roux-en-y patient, one must lose 70% of his or her excess weight. Since I have not yet had surgery, I am going to use my highest weight so I may get a ballpark figure. This may also help others to figure out how this figure is concluded.
Find the excess weight by subtracting ideal from current:
383 (My highest weight) - 109 (goal weight) = 274
Now, take 70% of that:
274 x 0.7 = 191.8
So I would be successful if I lost 191.8 lbs.
383-191.8 = 191.2
Ultimately, I would need to get down to 191.2 lbs.

May 14, 2014 Last appt (the day before beginning the liquid diet) I weighed in at 342.6) with surgeon I have lost 40.4 lbs from my highest weight of 383.
May 23, 2014 Final weigh before surgery: 330 lbs (Total loss of 53 lbs before surgery)
330 (My current weight) – 109 (My goal weight) = 221
Now, take 70% of that: 221 x 0.7 = 154.7
So, I would be successful if I lost 154.7 pounds after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
344 - 154.7 = 189.3
Ultimately, I would need to get down to 189.3 pounds to be considered a Roux-en-y success, according to my surgeon.
