A date is set

Jan 10, 2011

The only thing going through my head right now is “wow”.  It seems like just yesterday that I began researching bariatric surgery and today I got my surgery date finalized.  Seven months of pre-op doctor visits, sleep studies, nutritional counseling and insurance claims have all cumulated to this.  February 14, 2011, Valentine’s Day, will now forever be known and remembered by me, my close friends and family as my re-birth date and “surgaversary” and day I regain control over my lifelong struggle with being overweight.  There have been days over the past several months where I felt overwhelmed with the process, however in retrospect it enlightened me to several weight related health concerns which I was either unaware of or didn’t realize how much of a problem they actually were.   Also, had it not been for the tremendously phenomenal staff at St. Elizabeth’s Center for Weight Control I am not sure how I would have kept track of everything.  Thus far, this experience has been seamless.  I am excited and a bit nervous for what lays ahead but enthusiastic for my new “life”.  My only trepidation right now is losing muscle mass and strength.  I’ve been reassured by several people that this should not be an issue.  I hope they are right!
