Week 6

Jan 25, 2011

Feeling good, feeling strong.  I can also feel my self confidence returning.  I'm down 26 pounds since surgery, 46 pounds overall.  This week I brought out the size 18-20 pants (that I had been saving), and retired the size 22-24 ones, as they are falling off me, and no amount of pinning made them look OK.  I tried on my new Ann Taylor size 18 pants I bought, but still no go.  Still need to lose about 10 more for those to fit, but I did get them buttoned, and zipped.  Last week, I could only button them.

I decided to follow a couch to 5K training program (by myself, not in a class or group).  I've picked out a 5K in uptown Charlotte on April 8th, as my first race.  Counting 8 weeks backward, I start training on Feb 13th.  I'm using Runkeeper as my training tool on my new iPhone.  It has split times, and I think I can use the timer for Intervals too.  If not, I have a garmin Forerunner watch for that.  Once upon a time, I ran 5K's, after doing Phen-Fen in the 1990's.  I actually ran a race on Jekyll Island GA, and won my age group.  My prize was a pair of Asics running shoes.  Boy, that has stuck in my husbands craw for 15 years, as he has been continually competing (now in triathlons) ever since and hasn't placed in his age group yet.  But then again, the competition for guys is so much more, as there's more of them.  My reward for passing the 200's is going to be a new pair of running shoes.  I've got about 11 pounds to go for that reward.

I did have one negative episode this week, again with the too full pain, vomiting foamies, trying to vomit up the real food still stuck.  It was with my previously tolerated, buffalo chicken dip.  I know I ate it too fast.  It took from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. to pass.  Much of the time spent in the bathroom with head in the toilet.  I was miserable.  Now I'm super cautious about eating slow, I watch the clock and take a bite every minute.  And small bites too.  That's seems to be working, as I ate a container of Zoe's chicken salad this week, and also 1 oz of deli turkey.  So denser proteins are starting to stay down.

Not much else going on.  Looking forward to the Super Bowl and watching the Packers win!  I'm originally from WI, Milwaukee to be exact, and still cheer the old team on.  Of course, I also cheer the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, University of Alabama (roll tide), and really anyone else my husband watches.  Since we've lived in various places about the south, we're always cheering for the local teams.
