why tracking food intake helps

i'm just about to finish my first month of a 6 month doc ordered diet before surgery.
i have been logging in all my food to myfitnesspal.com and boy does that make a difference!
i'im supposed to stay  under 1200 calories a day and yesterday i consummed almost 4000. i felt...horrible about it. i even exercised that day but i negated that with all the junk i ate.

today's a new day and i'm feeling WAY more in control and not even wanting those foods again.
i say this month..i only put forth about 45% effort, desire, determination....i can do MUCH better.
