Lightweights Weight Loss Pattern?

Each of us is different...some lose steadily, some of us stair step our way thru this.

Go read this thread:

Here is the math:

Surgery weight: 216.8

Goal (25%) weight to lose 100% of Excess Weight (EW) is 141.

You had 75.8 lbs to lose to get to a 25% BMI and lose all your excess.

You've lost 23.4 lbs.

23.4/75.8 is 30% so you are actually ahead of the game. On track to lose it all is 25% lost after 2 months, 50% after 6 months, and 80% at one year.

Wish I would've gotten this formula from my doctor to begin with....it's reassuring to know I'm right on track. I'll use this going forward. Thanks!

Well, *I* was told that I would be doing good to get down to 160...

Surgeons tend to tell you how much ALL their patients average...we are NOT average. Remember many of their patients exceed a 50 BMI.

You are doing fine.  Just keep on keeping on.  We all worry that this won't work because we have had so many times that whatever we were doing didn't work.  but this does.  Work on getting 20 oz of fluid in between each meal, before breakfast and after supper.  sip, sip, sip.

Not sure where you got the 3 months or what kind of surgery you had but most of us slow down around 5-6 months and with RNY the honeymoon is 18 months.

I had VSG and my doctor said that most of my weight will be lost within the first 3 months. I'll just keep on doing what I'm doing...either way, at the end of it all I'll be much healthier than I was before which is what matters most. :)

"my doctor said that most of my weight will be lost within the first 3 months."

It very well may be.

My surgeon likes to see 50% at 3 months and 80% at 6 months and you are right on track for that.

I think 50% at 3 months might be a little aggressive but I think 50% at 6 months is probably asking for trouble. Most people slow down at around 6 months. So, if you want to lose it all, you have to be at more than 50% at 6 months to make up for the fact that less is going to come off months 6-12 than came off months 1-6.

Here's what I did my first year, if the helps:

At 2 months, I stalled for 6 or 7 weeks.  Then I was losing about 8-9 lbs a month, then it dropped to maybe 3 lbs a month.  I am 5.5 months out.  It's all about figuring out what will work for you.

I think your calories are low, considering you work out.  If you continue to struggle to lose weight, try bringing your calories up using fats and see if that doesn't start melting some weight off.  Add 100 calories a week, and see if it starts the drop.

Personally, I was eating 1600-1700 calories with moderate exercise.  The weight loss kept getting slower and slower.  After the last stall of 3 weeks, I started tracking my foods in Myfitnesspal to see what and how much I ate.  I was over eating on protein, and that cut about 300 calories.  But my calories are still above 1100 - and that is laying around on the couch for days.  So track your foods, play with your fat/carbs/protein ratios to find one that works, and don't put your body into starvation mode.

Good luck.

You are doing AWESOME!!!!   I don't know how you were before WLS but I was a slow loser and slow gainer.  When others would loose 5 or 6 pounds at WW I was happy with 1 because that was huge for me but I also never gained more than a pound either.

It would benefit us if you put your surgery type and date on your signature or if you can figure out how to put it on the heading (I think you do it on your surgery profile page).

Thanks! I still haven't figured out how to add my surgery type and info like everyone else. I went to my profile and updated all the information but it's still not showing up. I'd like to add it to my signature as well. I guess I need to fiddle with it a bit more. :)
