Plumbing issue
Hi Toni,
I am a little over one month out and had the same problem as you about the same time. My surgeon gave me a list of stuff I could take and she said I could take any or all of them. Did you get a list of such things? Maybe call them and ask if not. I don't want to tell you what I was told because maybe your doctor would not agree. Also, did you take just the one dose of MOM?
Hi Toni,
I had a horrible time post op with my plumbing. I literally tried everything including prescription supositories. Well, about a month ago (I'm 3 months post op), I started taking a probiotic (the refrigerated kind you can get at a health food store at least 2 Billion live active cultures). It has saved my life. No problems, I feel great and when I do go, it's easy (not the insane pain and pushing from the first two months). Anyways, I hope that helps I know how difficult it can be and that awful bloated feeling is no fun either. Good luck!
May I ask what specifically you take and how much? I really live on Miralax bc I get so stopped up. I do take 1 Trunature probiotic in pill form that is 10 billion live active cultures and it doesn't seem to do anything for me. As expensive as they are I was going to stop using them.
I did a post related to this a while back. Unfortunately, constipation is something many of us are very familiar with! While my post was humorous, the actual problem isn't really funny and needs to be addressed or you'll set yourself up for a whole host of unpleasantness and can actually harm yourself physically. Here's the list I put in that post of things I've either tried or other people have recommended to help with the problem:
- Increase your water intake
- Get in your exercise
- Add fiber to your foods with Benefiber
- Increase fiber by eating more veggies, like beans
- Eat a full fat diet
- Take Miralax
- Eat prunes
- Take a Senna pill or sprinkles
- Take a stool softener like Colace
- Drink Smooth Move tea
- Glycerin suppositories
- Enemas, either the Fleet type or full water version
- Take additional Magnesium
- Take Milk of Magnesia
- Take Magnesium Citrate

I suggest Miralax. You can take a dose everyday until you feel regulated again. Also, drink more water. I was drinking at least 64 oz right from day 2-3. Hope it works for you!

In addition to the above, iron supplements can be constipating. I don't know if you are taking iron, most people do. The ferrous salts are very constipating. Carbonyl iron is not. There are several brands, but I usually use Sundown Perfect Iron.
